Go North to Northwood!! - Hello Cupcake and Something Lively

This week, I want to show you some of my favorite spots in West Palm Beach’s exciting “Hidden Shopping Mecca” and dining district: Northwood!

So colorful!
Imagine Soho 20 years ago, this is Northwood….located up Dixie Highway  in West Palm Beach- a10 minutes drive from Palm Beach. New stores each month pop up …. brightly colored exteriors …happy and inviting! Where once abandoned shops have been polished back to mint condition.

Bringing my two dogs, Bailey and Blue, as experts, I started to explore. Being a sugar junkie, my first stop was Star Robinson’s Hello Cupcake…”We are more than cupcakes”.
Star Robinson is the STAR baker at Hello Cupcake!
Star was a professional chef on ships and thought he would become a caterer, but well into it he hated it and started to bake. He loved to bake cupcakes. Open for 1 ½ years he has a variety of sizes. His most popular is red velvet (from mini to jumbos).  Next comes key lime with pralines, and snickers & cream. He will make any combo you design. Star is the shiny STAR of the street!

The next stop on our tour of Northwood is Something Lively.

David Romaine, the owner, is the grandfather of Northwood, as his shop has been open for ten years.  His store used to be a single building, Whitey’s Auto Supply, and then he kept adding on to it and voila! It is now 9000 sq. feet…of treasures!

Love these cushions!  Black velvet buttons with luxe maribou trim
Really 1960's!! Palm Beach classic lamps!
1950's French crystal lamp (one of a pair).  So much fun!
Lime green wooden bowls for chips.  So Super Bowl!
From Thailand - Garden planters - indoor/outdoor!
Lots of chairs - mix and match - Country French with 60's painted cabinet
Don't you love green chairs with hot pink PB classic print?!
Not only does he sell home & garden furnishings, but once a month he does wine tastings with The Community Redevelopment Association and 17 neighboring shops, which are all open between 6:00pm and 10:00pm for tastings. The next tastings are Friday, February 25thand March 25th (Northwoodvillage.blogspot.com).
Within his store, David also offers a service called “Palm Beach Restoration Studios” which restores porcelain, crystal, art & antiques.  How great is that? This shop is the jewel of the neighborhood.  Recently, Carleton Varney did a book signing there for his latest!
